Overview

Jiantu is a local-first, lightweight hiking journal. The developer does not collect your name, phone number, email, or other identifying information. Except for the anonymous hiking tracks described in "Anonymous Route Contribution" below, your data is not uploaded to any developer-owned server.

Your plans, records, tracks, elevation, moments, and photos are stored locally on your device by default, kept inside the iOS app sandbox where other apps cannot access them.

Location & Elevation

When you actively use location picking, current location, or hike recording, the app uses the system location services to generate places, tracks, distance, speed, elevation, total ascent, start and end points.

Location data is processed and stored only on your device; except for the anonymous tracks described in "Anonymous Route Contribution," it is not sent to the developer's server. During recording, the app continues to access location in the background so the track is captured completely.

Anonymous Route Contribution

To help hikers choose routes with real-world reference, Jiantu gathers the routes people walk and import into an anonymous trail database. When you finish recording a hike, or import a GPX route into the app, the app uploads that route's track points (latitude, longitude, and elevation) and its destination name to the developer's server.

This upload is anonymous. Jiantu has no account system, and the server does not record your IP address, device identifier, or anything that could tie a route back to you. Each route carries only its own randomly generated id, used only to avoid duplicates, which cannot point to a specific person or device.

The upload contains only the track coordinates, elevation, and destination name. Your photos, check-in content, timestamps, speed, heart rate, and any identifying information are never sent.

These anonymous tracks become part of a global trail database and may be shown to other users as a route reference. The developer does not sell this data or use it to build a profile of you.

Because an uploaded track can no longer be linked back to you, an individual contribution cannot be retrieved or deleted once it has been made.

AI Features

Jiantu offers two AI features: a trip summary after a hike, and pre-trip advice based on the route and weather.

To generate this content, the app sends a de-identified trip summary (text such as distance, duration, total ascent, check-in descriptions, and weather conditions) to the developer's AI endpoint for processing. Raw GPS coordinates, photos, and any personally identifying information are never sent.

The AI endpoint is deployed by the developer. Once the result is returned, your trip data is not retained on the server.

Health Data (HealthKit)

After recording ends, the app can write the hike to the Apple Health app, including: workout type (hiking), duration, distance, estimated calories, and route track.

If you also use an Apple Watch, the Watch collects heart rate and active energy in real time via HKWorkoutSession. After recording ends, watchOS syncs this data to the Health app automatically; Jiantu does not read or upload your heart rate data in this process.

All HealthKit permissions are requested through the system prompts. You can revoke access at any time in Settings — Health — Data Access & Devices. Denying access does not affect normal local saving of your records.

Weather

After you choose a location and date for a plan, the app queries the QWeather service using that location's latitude/longitude and date to obtain weather conditions, temperature, wind, and sunrise/sunset.

The query contains only coordinates and a date — no account or device identifier.

Maps & Place Search

Map display, place search, and place-name resolution rely on Apple's map and location capabilities (MapKit / CoreLocation). The related data handling follows Apple's privacy policy.

Photos & Camera

The app accesses the camera or photo library only when you actively take a photo or choose one from your library. Selected photos are saved only in the current record and are never uploaded to any server.

Notifications

If you enable departure reminders, the app requests notification permission and sends local notifications only on this device. The app does not use push notifications (APNs) and never sends any notification to your device over the network.

iCloud, Export & Import

If you have enabled iCloud in your device's system settings, app data syncs across your devices via Apple CloudKit. The data belongs to your Apple ID and the developer cannot access it.

If you actively export your data, the exported file may contain plans, records, tracks, weather, elevation, moments, and photos. You are responsible for keeping and managing the exported file.

Third-party Services

Jiantu uses the following third-party services. The table below lists the data each service receives:

Service Purpose Data sent
QWeather Weather forecast Location coordinates, date
Apple Maps Map display, place search Search keywords, current location (optional)
Apple CloudKit iCloud sync (optional) App data, owned by your Apple ID
Developer AI endpoint Trip summary, trip advice De-identified trip summary (no coordinates, no photos)

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes materially, we will notify you in advance within the app via an alert or notice. Continuing to use the app after the change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
